5 Things about Menopause Barbie Doll
November 30, 2014

Dancing Barbies

I keep waiting for Menopause Barbie to be released. Is this the year we will see her on the toy store shelves? She is past the average age menopause hits.

Here are five things I think Menopause Barbie will look like:

1.She is wearing sneakers.

55 years of wearing high heels have done a number on her feet. She can only fit her orthotics into sneakers.

2. She stopped having maintenance done.

Her breasts, butt and face are more realistic. She looks great still but more dare I say it, more age appropriate?

3. She has retired from her zillion careers.

At 55 she is a bit young but let’s face it she made some good investments over the years. That Malibu beach house she sold and the cars besides her pensions from all her careers give her a good nest egg.

4. She stopped coloring her hair.

She has white streaks that look great and natural in her remaining blonde hair.

5. She finds a close group of friends or a life partner.

Let’s face it, Ken was never going to be more than a plaything and we want her to be happy. Sure she has been busy all these years and has had lots of friends in the doll world but now is the time to enjoy and make friendship her priority.

BONUS POINTS: She is now on the Board for Mattel and becomes a philanthropist for the arts and education.

I envision Barbie donating lots of money to NPR and PBS.

Menopause Barbie is the woman we all want her to be if she was a real woman. We hope she will age to be Senior Barbie and maybe even Geriatric Barbie.

Mattel is missing a gold mine. What a perfect 50-year-old present, a Social Security present or even a 70-year-old gag gift if only they would let Barbie age gracefully!

What’s Your Best Worst Thanksgiving Story?
November 23, 2014

For some reason almost everyone has a Thanksgiving horror story. Here are some of the issues:

  1. Turkey still frozen
  2. Turkey cooked with the giblet package contained
  3. Not all the food is done even close to the same time
  4. Toilet overflows
  5. Garbage disposal backs up
  6. Guests arriving at 9 AM for a 3 PM dinner
  7. Guests not arriving because of weather but don’t call
  8. Guests bringing unknown extra guests but don’t call
  9. Guests not bringing food items they were assigned or volunteered
  10. Guests stealing money out of purses
  11. Guests drinking too much and acting obnoxious
  12. Guests getting into physical fighting matches
  13. Guest arguing and leaving early
  14. Guests drinking too much and staying over night
  15. Lots of food is spilled on the carpet
  16. Lots of beverages are spilled on the carpet
  17. The dog/cat is yuuking up on the carpet
  18. Dishes and glasses are broken
  19. Counters tops are cut into
  20. Water rings are left on woodwork and furniture

Here is my best worst Thanksgiving story:

The dinner is over. The same lovely guests who always help are helping with the cleanup. Dishes are put into the dishwasher, pans are washed and dried by hand, leftovers are placed into containers, and the turkey carcass is wrapped up and placed in the refrigerator.

Next morning hostess looks in her refrigerator and can not find her leftovers. Not one container of potatoes, green beans, turkey, stuffing or even the carcass is found. She calls 2 of her guests who helped clean up and they are dumbfounded. She calls her Mother who says she saw a guest put into a black garbage bag the carcass. The hostess calls said guest who admits that while she was taking the carcass she just took everything else too!

There seems to be a cat with desserts on the table!

What’s your best worst Thanksgiving story? Vent here before the guests arrive!

The Thanksgiving Lobster
November 17, 2014

 Weintraub's

Thanksgiving was one of my favorite holidays growing up. It was a fun secular event and I ate lobster. What’s not to like?

My father’s family owned a Jewish Kosher deli in Massachusetts. It was started by my Grandfather and passed down to my Dad and his 2 brothers. On Thanksgiving Day the ‘store’ as we called the restaurant, was busy with take out orders, including turkey dinners. The restaurant would finally close around 4 or 5 PM.

All the Weintraubs would gather at a restaurant (not ours) around 6 PM for Thanksgiving dinner. We had a private room to accommodate the 20+ of us. We ordered off the special holiday menu and only my Grandmother would order turkey dinner. The rest of us would order lobster, or duck or when the boys were adolescents, rump roast because saying ‘rump’ to a waitress put them into giggle fits.

After dinner we watched old home movies and laughed over the sight of our young parents. We would shout out the names of older relatives as they passed the screen. We enjoy some of the same movies every year.

At the end of the evening my Grandmother would pass out her Chanukah gift to us. It was always a generous check. The next week she would leave for Florida missing Chanukah. It was a perfect ending to a fun holiday celebration giving me a lifetime of great memories that I am very thankful to conjure up this time of year.

Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving memory or food you must eat on the Holiday?

Change in Season, Same Hot Flashes/Night Sweats
November 9, 2014

Fall Colors

I love fall. The brisk air, the foliage, the anticipation of Holidays.

With the change in weather is the change in wardrobe. Out come coats and sweaters, or do they?

I detected a whine in the voice of my husband the other morning when he said, “Can we turn on some heat please?” Heat? Really is it time to turn the heat on? I noticed he was wearing fleece. When did he stop wearing shorts?

Certainly when the heat is turned on and the rains have started, I need to get out my winter wardrobe. I used to have 2 sets of clothing, one for summer and one for winter. Since menopause, I notice I have one set of clothing with some sandals or a few sweaters.

One set of clothes for all seasons? I could be living in Hawaii! I don’t! Damn you menopause!!

With the change of the seasons and the heat is turned on and it is cool outside then warms up or it rains and then stops, it is hard for anyone to regulate their body temperature. For the menopausal, the hot flashes and night sweats are just having a hey day and night!

Is it hot in here? I know it isn’t just me! Do you have one all weather wardrobe?

My Skin May Have A Glow???
November 2, 2014

This is a sponsored post. I was given L’Oreal Skin Care but the opinions are all mine.

 Loreal Skin Care

When I was contacted to try out L’Oreal Age Perfect, Glow Renewal skin products I was thrilled. Not only was I on the lookout for some new moisturizer, I was desperate to find something that would feel good and not aggravate my skin. Formulated for older skin is also a plus!

It has only been a little more than 2 weeks since the trio arrived but already I am in love with the products and here are my reasons:

They have a light smell.

My husband’s eyes aren’t watering from the scent at night and it is not overpowering my fragrance during the day.

The facial oil has an eye drop application.

I love this application and wish more products used this method of distribution. You can easily regulate how much you need without waste or fuss.

The Day lotion has a “broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen”.

My dermatologist and my primary care physician have told me to use a sunscreen everyday. This day lotion makes it easy to fulfill this need without depending on my makeup containing sunscreen.

The Hydra-nutrition cream makes my skin feel good.

The cream is not heavy but not too light. It goes on easily. Together with the oil it makes my skin feel very soft.

Am I glowing? The products are called “Age Perfect Glow Renewal”. I might be. I have dull skin, and I may have noticed a hint of a glow. I do know the products have not aggravated my skin at all. That has happened with other products. I actually got headaches from a moisturizer but certainly not with this L’Oreal trio. In another month I will write a 6-week evaluation and hope then I can confirm a glow!

Based on my use I would recommend these products to anyone looking for a new skin care moisturizing line. Have you tried L’Oreal Age Perfect Glow Renewal?
